Mounting makes the data on a storage device, like block storage, available to the file system on a computer. Users on the computer can then read and write to mounted storage devices.
The location in the file system where a storage device is mounted is called the mount point.
The opposite of mounting is unmounting, which removes access to the storage device so it is safe to remove or relocate.
